A figure bends forward on tiptoe, one arm flung back, the other hauling a long fold of cloth. The spine is bare, vertebra by vertebra. Behind the torso stands a ruined arch with a lapis-blue sky, all on a flat sand ground.

The spine and the pale, downcast face kept the hand's drawing: weight, order, a skeleton that knows where it stands. Everything else was displaced. Shoulder turned to masonry, flesh to drapery, and the sky came in through the back. The body did not vanish. It became architecture.

The eye keeps returning to the place where bone meets cloth. The seam is different at each visit, and it never closes into a single reading.
