A man lunges into a throw, one arm flung forward, head bowed inside sweeping pale arcs. One flank is chalk-white skin crazed with fine cracks. The other pours down in roots, red and navy strands knotted around small bones at the floor.

The throwing pose is one of the oldest agreed images of a body in command. Here it survives only on one side. The hand's map entered along the spine and would not smooth over: it opened the body into fibre and bone. Momentum and rootedness share one figure, and the arcs record a gesture half of it can no longer finish.

The eye goes to the head, half swallowed by the arcs. Each time it must decide whether the face is leading the throw or being dragged down into the roots. The decision never holds.
