A pale figure balances on one foot on a wooden floor before a gridded white wall. The head is bowed, the ear exact. Black spirals and a red-veined lattice open from the torso. Red and black threads hang from the limbs and trail to the floor.

The floor and the foot are the only places where the body still obeys the habitual, weight-bearing version of itself. Everywhere else the hand's drawing held out: spirals, veins and cords that no norm of the body would have produced. They are not ornament. They are what the body became instead of closing.

The eye keeps going back to the red at the chest, then follows the threads down to the foot. The balance never settles. Each look finds the figure holding up a little differently.
