A figure balances on one bare foot, head bowed, black hair streaming down the back. One knee is raised, one thin hand trails behind. Cream, blotched sheets wrap the torso and swell into a heavy bulb at the hip, spotted brown and veined red, against a flat sand ground.
The raised thigh is smooth, lit like living flesh. Then the same crumpled skin takes over the shoulder, the flank and the hanging bulb, with no seam between them. Mid-step, the dancer is a pause in a current of matter that was there before and will go on after. The stain pattern marks how brief the pause is.
The bare foot and the lowered face hang at the height where you carry your own. Standing near it, you register your knee, the slope of your shoulder, the skin of your neck as a surface that is only passing through.
