Two figures lock at the upper frame — one pale, cracked like dried plaster, its skull-like head tilted back under the pressure of hands; the other darker, skin rendered in deep umber and raw sienna, arms folding around and through. The ground behind them fractures into hard fields: black, teal, white, a slash of red at the lower left. Cracks run across both bodies without regard for where one ends and the other begins. The image refuses to assign roles. Grip and surrender occupy the same gesture. The cracked white figure presses upward; the darker figure presses in — but neither force resolves into dominance. White drips run down the lower half, indifferent to the anatomy they cross. What holds the composition is not contact between the figures but the structural impossibility of separating them.
