A head and shoulders, frontal but tilted slightly away. The skull is sealed — no face, no aperture — its surface wrapped in dense, layered striations that run like sediment compressed over time. Across where eyes would be, a band of ochre, blue, and teal cuts through the grey: colour as interruption, not feature. Below, the body darkens into black, garment and figure becoming the same material. The image withholds recognition entirely. What reads as flesh is stone; what reads as cloth is the same substance as skin. The pale warm ground presses at the figure's right edge, almost luminous — but it does not illuminate. Hypostasis: underlying substance, the thing beneath appearances. The image performs that inversion without announcing it.
