Two states of the same head occupy the same frame — one facing left, one three-quarter right — separated by a vertical fault line that runs from crown to throat. The left plane carries warm ochre and rust breaking through cracked plaster; the right holds cool blue-grey, smooth where the other is fractured. A single ear anchors the left mass. Fine linear scoring crosses both planes without respecting the division. The two surfaces do not compose a face — they contest one. Each panel reads as internally coherent before the eye moves to the seam, where coherence fails. The black ground presses in from all sides, not as atmosphere but as material fact. What the image holds is not contrast but incompatibility: two conditions of the same form, coexisting without resolution.
