A figure leaps in mid-air against a bare beige wall, over a plank floor, a faint shadow beneath. The face is in profile, eyes lowered, one red ear. A pale carapace of curved plates opens behind the torso, edged in lilac spikes. The right hand hangs loose, flushed pink.
The pull toward the probable would have smoothed this body into one athlete, one skin. The hand's map held out against it. Hips, shoulder and ribs went to plate and brass coil, and what came back is a third state: a dancer who is partly shell.
The eye keeps leaving the carapace for the lowered face. The face never reacts to what has happened to the body, and that calm is what does not wear out.

Artist
SaintPixel is an art project created by Mikael Gueguen, who was born in France in the 1970s. He trained in applied arts and fine arts, including a two-year apprenticeship in decorative painting (wood and marble finishes, large-scale scenic designs, and trompe l'œil). An IT entrepreneur in the 2000s, he returned to artistic and manual practice, working today at the intersection of traditional media and generative AI.
