A face in close profile, eyes closed, chin tilted down toward a hand that barely touches it. The skin carries ornamental tracery — scrollwork pressed into the cheek and forehead like embossed leather or engraved silver. Black netting falls from the crown, draping across the jaw and throat, its mesh indistinguishable in places from the pores beneath it.
Two registers of surface occupy the same face: one organic, lined, heavy with age; the other decorative, tooled, belonging to metalwork or liturgical binding. Neither sits on top of the other. The image refuses to separate what was applied from what grew there. That refusal is where the looking stalls — and stays.

Artist
SaintPixel is an art project created by Mikael Gueguen, who was born in France in the 1970s. He trained in applied arts and fine arts, including a two-year apprenticeship in decorative painting (wood and marble finishes, large-scale scenic designs, and trompe l'œil). An IT entrepreneur in the 2000s, he returned to artistic and manual practice, working today at the intersection of traditional media and generative AI.
