A crouching male figure, faceless and bald, presses one hand against its own mouth. The torso is warm — ochre, raw sienna, the colour of carved wood or cured hide — while the limbs dissolve into slabs of slate blue and deep burgundy. Crumpled pink forms cling to the shoulders and ankles like discarded paper or displaced skin. Fine cross-hatching scores every surface. Paint drips from the lower edges, thick and dark. The body is caught between contraction and dispersal. It pulls inward — knees folded, arm drawn tight — but its materials scatter outward, breaking into competing textures and weights. A faint rectangular frame contains none of it. What holds the image is the hand against the face: the one gesture that stays legible while everything else departs from itself.
