A face flattened into register — deep blue, arterial red, cracked gold ground. One eye dominates the upper field, its iris collapsed into a black disc rimmed with cream and red lacquer. Below it, the jaw opens wide: teeth visible, bone-pale, set into a cavity that reads as cavity before it reads as mouth. A spiral descends from the throat, coiling inward through concentric bands of blue and red, pulling the lower half of the image into recession.
The surface carries its age openly — craquelure runs across skin and ground without distinction, treating both as the same painted panel. What draws the eye first is the clarity of the ornamental lines: precise, heraldic, almost decorative. What holds it is the open jaw and the eye above it, two apertures in a face that has otherwise closed into pattern. The image rests on that distance — between what is formally resolved and what remains, unmistakably, a body.

Artist
SaintPixel is an art project created by Mikael Gueguen, who was born in France in the 1970s. He trained in applied arts and fine arts, including a two-year apprenticeship in decorative painting (wood and marble finishes, large-scale scenic designs, and trompe l'œil). An IT entrepreneur in the 2000s, he returned to artistic and manual practice, working today at the intersection of traditional media and generative AI.
