A figure in profile occupies the left field: pale face, red hair coiled at the crown, skin smooth against a warm bone ground threaded with ink lines fine as cracked varnish. To the right, a second figure — darker, teal-saturated, textured like lacquered wood — presses into the frame. At the centre, their bodies meet in a vertical seam where burnt orange and deep red bleed upward through black filaments. The two figures do not touch in the way bodies touch. They share a border where their materials are incompatible: one dissolves into line and vapour, the other holds mass and pigment. The red at the join is not romantic colour — it is pressure, the place where two states of matter are forced into contact without resolving into one.
