A man sits hunched on a low surface, elbow on knee, hand cupped against his jaw, head angled down. His clothes and skin share the same grey register — cloth, flesh, and shadow flattened into a single dense material. Behind and beside him, a second figure rises: not flesh but a dense tangle of black thread, wire, and dried matter, loosely human in outline, dissolving at its edges into the saturated yellow ground. The two figures occupy the same seat, the same weight, the same teal floor — but they are made of incompatible substances. The seated man reads as solid, concluded, worn. The figure beside him has no surface to conclude. It stands anyway. Neither ignores the other. The image holds this proximity without offering a relation between them — only the fact of it.
